Burner
covers are not only attractive; they also protect the burners from spills.
If you’ve ever turned on your burner, only to find that it is emitting
smoke and a fowl odor throughout the kitchen, you know how unpleasant
that can be. |
||
This is caused by a previous splatter of oil, or a bit of
food that has fallen in the burner bowl.We don’t think much about
burners. They’re just something we’re accustomed to seeing,
and that we accept as having to look the way they do. But once we see
how much better a stove top can look with burner covers, it’s hard
to go back to the old way of seeing things. Burner covers come in a variety
of styles, color and materials. |

Important tips: Buying and using burner covers- Inexpensive burner covers tend to be thin, and they dent easily. They can also warp, and thus won't sit flat on your stove. The thicker the cover, the better. - Covers that weigh more are probably of better quality. - Inexpensive covers also tend to have a very thin coat of paint on them, and so they scratch easily. Try to find covers that have a thicker coat, or opt for stainless steel. - Make sure you get the right size. This is especially important for rectangular covers which cover two burners. - Look at your stove and check for anything that could prevent the covers from sitting flat on the stove. Watch for things like burner bowl handles, or ridges at the edge of the stove top. - If you have a gas stove, you will probably need deeper covers. - Avoid abrasive cleansers and scouring pads (even plastic ones). They can scratch the paint off of the covers. - Streaks may show when you clean shiny covers. - Be careful to never turn on a burner that has a cover on it. You could easily burn yourself, especially if you are unaware the burner is on. The finish may discolor, and the cover may start to emit smoke. - Believe it or not, some burner covers are made of plastic. You should avoid these, as they will melt if you turn on the burner by mistake. They may even melt partially if a neighboring burner is turned on. Advantages of burner covers- Burner cover can make it seem as if you have more counter space . - They prevent food and liquids from falling into the stove. - They prevent oil from splattering onto the burners. - They can be turned around and used as small trays. |

| Let’s face it, stove burners are not the most attractive thing in our kitchen. This is probably why someone came up with the idea of covering them with attractive burner covers. And it’s amazing how much of an impact they can have to the overall look of the kitchen. They seem to brighten up the room. They come in a slew of different colors, which means you can either match them to the color of your stove, or use them as a contrast by choosing a bold complimentary color to add a splash of pizzazz. Or you can go for a more whimsical look, since many burner covers feature beautiful designs that go from modern and sleek to traditional. And there are still more options. First, the shape: Covers for burners are most commonly circular, meant to cover one burner, or they can be rectangular and cover two burners. If you have square gas burners, you can also get square covers. Second, the materials: they come in metal or porcelain. Corelle also makes many models. But burner covers are not just decorative. They are practical. For one thing they keep crumbs and bits of food from falling into the burner tray. Also they keep liquids, such as oil from splashing onto burners. We’ve all experienced this: you turn on a burner, only to find smoke coming off of it, accompanied by an unpleasant odor. Burner covers prevent this from happening. | ||
